Welcoming Our Little Miracle: Meet Elliott Sallieu!
Life has taken on an entirely new, incredibly beautiful, and wonderfully chaotic rhythm. Our hearts are overflowing with a love we never knew possible, an affection so profound it changes the very landscape of our existence. We are absolutely thrilled to share the news that our precious son, Elliott Sallieu, has arrived and instantly stolen every ounce of our hearts.
He made his grand entrance into our family on a memorable Friday, July 31st, precisely at 9:23 AM. Weighing in at a perfect 7 lbs 12 oz and measuring 20.5 inches long, Elliott is every bit the blessing we had dreamed of and more. The journey to his arrival was filled with anticipation, and now, holding him in our arms, every moment feels like a dream come true, even amidst the sleep-deprived haze that characterizes these initial weeks of new parenthood. While it has been an undeniably exhausting week, I am already deeply, profoundly loving every single aspect of being his mom.
The Whirlwind of the First Week: A Journey of Love and Learning
The first week with a newborn is an experience unlike any other – a beautiful blur of snuggles, feedings, diaper changes, and an endless stream of tender moments. It’s a steep learning curve, a crash course in infant care, and an exercise in pure, unconditional love. Every day brings new discoveries as we get to know this tiny human who has so dramatically transformed our world. We find ourselves constantly marveling at his perfect little fingers, his tiny yawns, and the profound depth of his gaze.
One of the biggest adjustments we’re currently navigating is Elliott’s internal clock. Like many newborns, he’s decided that days are for napping and nights are for partying! This charming trait has certainly been challenging for both my husband and me, as our own sleep schedules have been thoroughly upended. However, with each passing day, we are slowly but surely adjusting to his unique world and finding a new rhythm that works for our growing family. It’s a delicate dance of patience, endless cuddles, and an unwavering commitment to meeting his needs, no matter the hour.

Discovering Elliott’s Adorable Personality
Even at just a week old, Elliott is already beginning to show glimpses of his burgeoning personality, and it’s utterly captivating to witness. We’re quickly learning his preferences, his quirks, and the little things that bring him comfort and joy (and sometimes, protest!).
He is, without a doubt, a champion cuddler. There’s nothing quite like the warmth and comfort of holding him close, feeling his tiny body relax into ours. These moments of close physical contact are not just about comfort for him; they are profound opportunities for us to bond, to whisper sweet nothings, and to simply soak in his presence. Another favorite activity of his is sleeping on daddy’s chest. The rhythmic thump of Mr. J’s heartbeat seems to be the ultimate lullaby, providing a sense of security and warmth that quickly lulls our little one into a peaceful slumber. It’s a truly heartwarming sight that reinforces the incredible bond already forming between father and son.
Elliott also seems to have a budding fascination with lights. His eyes, when open, often drift towards sources of illumination, a tiny spark of curiosity already evident. It’s a joy to observe these early signs of engagement with the world around him, knowing that every interaction, every sensory experience, is helping him learn and grow.
However, like any tiny human, Elliott has his distinct dislikes too! Outfit changes are often met with loud protests, a tiny battle of wills that we’re learning to navigate with speed and distraction. Burp time can also be a tricky affair, sometimes ending in a little spit-up and a disgruntled sigh from our baby boy. Cold wipes during diaper changes are definitely not on his list of favorite things, eliciting sharp cries that quickly prompt us to warm them up slightly or choose a gentler alternative. And, despite his interest in lights, he’s not a fan of sleeping in the dark, preferring a soft, reassuring glow. These little preferences, though sometimes challenging, are all part of getting to know our unique little individual.

A Team Effort: Mr. J’s Incredible Support
This journey into parenthood is undoubtedly a team sport, and I am incredibly fortunate to have the most amazing partner by my side. As expected, Mr. J has stepped into the role of dad with an ease and natural affection that warms my heart daily. He has been nothing short of the best partner during this trying yet joyful first week. From waking up for late-night feedings, expertly changing diapers, offering endless emotional support, and ensuring I get moments to rest, his presence has been an absolute pillar of strength. His calm demeanor and proactive help have made the overwhelming moments manageable, allowing us to truly cherish these precious early days with Elliott.
Unfortunately, the reality of work commitments means our wonderful “dad and mom” tag-team is about to shift. Mr. J goes back to work this Friday, and while I am incredibly proud of him, a tiny part of me wants to shout “hold me!” The thought of starting my solo journey with Elliott, navigating the days and nights largely on my own, is a mix of excitement and nerves. It will be a new chapter, a new set of challenges, and an even deeper dive into the beautiful chaos of full-time motherhood. I know we’ll both miss his constant presence during the day, but I’m also looking forward to deepening my bond with Elliott during this focused time.
Life Beyond the Newborn Bubble: A Blog Update
As you can probably imagine, my hands are incredibly busy at home, completely devoted to the joyous, round-the-clock care of our newborn. This means that things will continue to be a little slow around here on the blog for the foreseeable future. My primary focus right now is on Elliott, on adjusting to our new family life, and on soaking in every fleeting moment of his infancy. I believe in being present, and right now, ‘present’ means fully immersed in the beautiful reality of new motherhood.
However, please don’t worry about a complete silence! I’m incredibly blessed to have an amazing community of blogger friends who are stepping up to help keep this space vibrant. There are more fantastic guest posts from these talented individuals coming your way. They’ll be sharing their insights, stories, and expertise on a variety of topics, ensuring that you still have engaging content to enjoy while I’m focused on my little one. I’m so grateful for their support and generosity, which allows me to take this much-needed time for my family without completely abandoning this platform we’ve built together.
I am confident that once we find our new rhythm and settle into a more predictable routine, I’ll be back with fresh content, sharing more about our parenting journey, and diving back into the topics you’ve come to love. Until then, please enjoy the wonderful contributions from my guest bloggers!
Cherishing Every Moment and Looking Ahead
These early days with Elliott are fleeting, and we are consciously trying to savor every giggle, every coo, and even every challenging moment. It’s a period of intense transformation, not just for Elliott, but for us as parents, as we grow into our new roles and responsibilities. The love we feel is immeasurable, and the joy he brings into our lives is beyond words. We are so grateful for this incredible gift.
As the final weeks of summer draw to a close, we sincerely hope you are all enjoying the sunshine, making wonderful memories, and perhaps even getting a little more sleep than we are! Thank you for your continued support, your understanding, and for being part of this wonderful journey with us.
With love and gratitude,
xo
